Feb. 2nd Geriatric Saturday

What an insane night. Why do people think it appropriate to rub their waitresses back as they are leaving? Where in the world is this acceptable? First off let me state that I knew it would be an odd night when the restaurant was filled by 7pm with mostly senior citizens. This is not normal for a Saturday night in downtown Manhattan. Maybe the manager started advertising in rest homes. In any event as one of my mature patrons was leaving he rubbed my back and thanked me. This was strange not least of all because I was taking another tables order at the time. I could never understand why people feel the need to talk to you while you are busy with someone else.

Fellow waitress (I'll call her K) also had a weird toucher at one of her tables. He kept grabbing her leg right above the knee to bring her closer to the table. She almost fell over a few times. I'm amazed she managed to keep from punching him. Another server I know despises being touched by customers so much that he always walks away seething and threatening to stab them under his breath.

K and I got a drink at a neutral place. We exchanged the usual gripes and made plans for the upcoming week. If I didn't work at least half my shifts with her I think I'd quit.
